We Calculate your load by the following formula:

Flow rate (l/s) x (diff between inlet temp and outlet temp ) x 4.2 kJ/kg (specific heat capacity f water) 

Eg:  2.34 x 5 deg c  x 4.2

       Chiller size required is 49.1 kW

To calculate the Duty required we need:

1. specific heat capacity of the product
2. weights of product
3. start temperature of the product
4. end temperature of the product

Add up the volume of the fermentation vessels that need to be crash-cooled. 

Work out the start temp, end temp (deg c) and period of time to achieve the crash cool

Rule of thumb – allow 1.3 kw per BBL (eg 8 BBL = chiller capacity 10.4 kW)

How do I choose the right process chiller for me?

You need to consider ideal temperatures to operate efficiently. Consider the pump size and flow rates to cool your process.

Rule of thumb – For every 50 Ton of clamping force you require 2.5 kW cooling capacity 

So: a 250 Ton injection moulding machine requires a 12.5 kW chiller.

A chiller is an overall cooling unit that removes heat from liquids like water or refrigerants in a number of specific stages. One of these stages is condensation where hot vapour is directed into fins or a coil, which is exposed to the outside air, allowing the heat to be released.

Choosing between a water-cooled chiller and an air-cooled chiller depends on specific operational needs and environmental conditions. Water-cooled chillers are more efficient but require more complex infrastructure, whereas air-cooled chillers are simpler to install and maintain.

A chiller operates similarly to an air conditioner as both systems remove heat using a refrigeration cycle. However, chillers are generally used for larger spaces or industrial applications, offering extensive cooling capacity and efficiency for processes and commercial buildings.

If your chilled water can be in contact with food product or consumer products then use mono propylene glycol (M.P.G). For standard applications Mono Ethelyne Glycol (M.E.G) can be used.

We recommend a minimum of 25 % volume to ensure that the inhibitors function. Our technical team can calculate this if you can provide an estimate of pipe length and confirm pipe diameter.
